bernard zimmerman
what can i say about an architect who hasn't already said it about himself?
though some students were scared of his studio; (i personally went to europe for 4th year arc school, an easy and enjoyable escape).
he called me stephanie, and my husband, steve o'leary, frank. my husband just took it as a compliment as all great architects seem to be named frank.
i can remember years ago at the aia convention in san francisco standing in the exhibit hall with a friend and hearing a bellowing voice yell, "girls!!!!!!! girls!!!!!!!!!" it was bernard and it was directed toward us! he moved across the floor, shouting, "i want you to meet someone!" i thought, who could it be? what great architect is he going to introduce us to?
he reached us and said, "this is my son eric, the neon artist."
i then saw a side of bernard i hadn't know before,
that of the proud father.
