Textile artist
Alexandra Becket has
plenty of inspiration to draw from. Her grandfather
Welton Becket was one of the most celebrated midcentury architects in Los Angeles and designed such icons as the Capitol Records building and the Mark Taper Forum, whose
recent renovation we'll be discussing on this month's show. And her grandmother, 1940's film actress
Louise Currie twice starred opposite Bela Lugosi. Alexandra's also the sister of Alisa Becket, who we snapped a photo of with her husband Leo Marmol at the
Marmol Radziner event a few weeks ago. You could say design and glamour run in the family.
Alexandra's designs, which echo the foliage, light and modern architecture of Los Angeles have been incorporated into products for everywhere from Anthropologie to Bebe. For a new show opening at Design Within Reach, Alexandra will show her silk-printed originals, which include wall hangings and home accessories in her truly Hollywood style.
