Graphics for Obama
Today I left the reservation for a couple hours (at least one hour of that spent struggling through security) to hear Josh Brolin, Chris Moore (Producer, Good Will Hunting), and Shepard Fairey discuss progressive politics. I was particularly interested in hearing from Fairey, the LA-based street artist and designer of the Obama “Hope” poster that’s exploded into a visual stamp of the Obama campaign. He’s currently involved in designing the graphics for a film being produced by Moore and featuring Brolin and other actors. It’s called “The People Speak,” it’s based on Howard Zinn’s classic, “A People’s History of the United States,” and it’s a call to arms to people to get involved in progressive politics. Fairey represents an intersection of graphic design and grassroots activism that provides a refreshing counterpoint to the corporate look of almost everything here (cheerfully eccentric delegates excepted). Shown is a pic of his poster in progress for The People Speak. Must dash now to the convention hall. Bill is due to speak!
