Tord Boontje talks to DnA
Tord Boontje is the Dutch-born designer who in the last decade created products that helped a taste for ornament inspired by nature. What's interesting, however, is that it's only possible realize the quality of delicate but abundant foliage you find in his work thanks to the high-precision cutting techniques and materials of the digital age. He was in town earlier this month for the launch of Artecnica's new showroom and I spoke to him, as the party was getting going, about his work and the connection between urbanism and a yearning for nature. Catch the interview below right.
And shown, in photos by Edie Pereira, the showroom window, filled with Boontje creations; and, below, yours truly with Boontje, illuminated by his Icarus light; it is made of multiple layers of extruded polyester cut, says Artenica, "to resemble a bird’s wing".
