The Ten Best LA Houses of All Time, Reconsidered
A couple weeks back the LA Times published what it described as LA's Best Houses of All Time. To some design enthusiasts the ten picks were surprising: Out was Frank Gehry's career-making 1978 own home in Santa Monica; In was Irving Gill's 1916 Dodge House, considered by historians to be a brilliant house except that it was torn down almost 40 years ago, meaning most if not all of the "ten best" judges had never even seen it in the flesh!
On Wednesday morning students in UCLA's urban design and architecture school, under tutelage of Prof. Dana Cuff, will analyze, and critique these choices. Yours truly will there, to make a pick of the best. . . of the observations of the students. If you feel like dropping in on early class, public is welcome. The class starts at a brisk 8:30 AM, in Perloff Hall, Room 1220 on the Main Floor.
