Last Friday, DnA descended upon design company Artecnica, to meet managing director/design partner Enrico Bressan and see some of their wares. The reason for the visit: to interview Enrico for next Tuesday's DnA (kcrw.com/dna) in advance of the public opening of Artecnica's new showroom at their HQ at 508 S. San Vicente at La Cienega. Why does this matter? Because Artecnica is an LA-based design company known internationally for their beautiful products -- created in global collaborations with craftspeople around the world, and with such notable designers as the Netherlands' Toord Boontje and Hella Jongerius, the Brazilian Campano brothers, and more. But to date the firm, founded by Bressan and his partner and wife Tamineh Javanbakht, has kept a very low profile in LA. With the opening of their showroom, on October 10, they are opening their doors to an LA public. Boontje himself will speak at the opening. Watch this space for more details. 

Michael Shaw took these great pics and has the following to say about Artecnica's new Wirepod, designed by Joris Laarman featured here: it's a rubber coil with four outlets meant to be displayed out in the open, rather than hidden.  But how does it look when all 4 outlets are in use, with cords diverging in various directions?  Enrico deferred to the designer, whom he couldn't speak for, but said that he did have Baroque intentions- presumably meaning he, the designer, accounted for something of a cascade of cords.  If you have one of these, or have seen one, plugged into the hilt, please send a photo of it along!
